女：いやだぁ。最初の曲、もう終わってるじゃない。一番聞きたかったのに。先に食事するんじゃなかったわ。
I don’t like this. The first music has already finished. I wanted to listen that the most. We shouldn’t have eaten beforehand.
男：「後の祭り」さ。あきらめるんだね。
It’s ‘ato no matsuri (*Japanese proverb meaning ‘too late’). You have to abandon that.
女：あなたがいつまでも食べてるからいけないのよ。時間がなかったのに。
It was your bad because you kept eating endlessly. Although we didn’t have time.
男：「『芸術の秋』の前にまず『食欲の秋』」って言ったのは、きみじゃないか。クラシックの前はイタリア料理が一番だとか言って。
It was you who said “‘gourmet autumn’ comes first before ‘art lover’s autumn.’” You said it’s the best to eat Italian before listening to classic music.
女：そうは言ったって、あんなに食べることはないでしょ。
But you didn’t have to eat that much.
男：きみだってそのあとデザート注文したじゃないか。
You also ordered dessert after that.
女：わたしのせいにしないでよね。ただだからって、コーヒーを何杯もお代わりしたのはだれよ。もーっ、どうしてくれるのよ、チケット高かったのに。
Don’t blame me. Who ordered so many cups of coffee just because it was free. Hey, how are you going to compensate for this? The tickets were expensive.

1. Conversation in a 家族. One of them regrets he didn’t study English much.
A：旅行はどうだった？
How was your trip?
B：おもしろかったけど、言葉がよくわからなくてちょっと残念だったな。もっと英語を勉強しておけばよかったよ。
It was fun, but it was regrettable that I didn’t understand the language. I should have studied English more.
A：そう。
I see.

2. Conversation between 上司（じょうし：boss） and 部下（ぶか：subordinate）at 居酒屋の入り口. 部下 regrets he didn’t make an appointment.
上司：お客さんがいっぱいで、入れないみたいだね。
So many customers, it seems like we cannot come in.
部下：ああ、ほんとうだ。金曜日だから、予約しておけばよかったですね。
Oh, that’s right. It’s Friday, so we should have made a reservation.
上司：じゃあ、ほかを探そうか。
Then, shall we look for another place?
部下：ええ。

3. Conversation between 友達 at 地下鉄の出口. One of them regrets that he/she didn’t bring an umbrella.
友達A：あ、雨が降ってるよ。

1. Conversation between 姉 and 妹 at 家. 姉 blames 妹 for not leaving watermelon for her.

I already ate all.
姉：ええっ！どうして残しておいてくれなかったのよ。帰ったら食べようと思っていたのに。
What? Why didn’t you leave some? I thought I was going to eat it when I come back home.
妹：ごめんなさい。でも、また明日買ってくればいいじゃない。
Sorry, but you can buy it again tomorrow.

2. Conversation between someone and his/her 来客 at home. He/she blames that the 来客 didn’t call him/her.
来客：こんにちは。
Hello.
家の人：ようこそいらっしゃいました。あら、雨が降っているじゃありませんか。どうして電話してくださらなかったんですか。駅までお迎えに行きましたのに。
Welcome to my home. Oh, it’s raining, isn’t it? Why didn’t you call me? I could have come to pick you up at the station.
来客：いやあ、そんなにたいした雨じゃありませんから。

3. Conversation between 先輩 and 後輩 at 職場. 後輩 blames 先輩 for that 先輩 didn’t invite 後輩 to the sushi restaurant.
先輩：きみが教えてくれたすし屋に行ってみたよ。
I went to the sushi restaurant that you told me.
後輩：中野の駅前のですか。どうでした？
The one in front of the station in Nakano? How was that?
先輩：おいしくて、食べ過ぎちゃったよ。
It was delicious, and I ate too much.
後輩：そうでしょう。ぼくも行きたかったなあ。どうして誘ってくれなかったんですか。
